Habtoor saturday

Today we went to the beachclub at Habtoor again. This morning we asked the kids if they wanted to go swim today they said "Yes!! where?" When I asked where they wanted to go J was quick to reply "to the slide pool" refering to the pool with the watering slide. Good thing that was what we had in mind :) We stayed until it was time for lunch and got some McDonalds take away that we ate in the car on the way home as R got a "sim support" session tonight so he needed to rest. Me and the kids relaxed with some Mary Poppins and finished off with some rounds of Uno.

Banana break

Kids under 16 years are not allowed in the jacuzzi but to make up for it they have this lovely bubble section in the normal pool. Kids loved it!

When we came home I found J sleeping, holding on to her Happy Meal box with food still in her mouth! My poor little thing...I guess that says something about how tiring our morning in the sun was!

<3

Today A was invited to a birthday party at a classmate (and one of his favourite friends) and since R was supposed to be working J had been allowed to come too. It was a lovely party at Arabian Ranches with a great animator and both kids had a blast. It was lovely to see how A looked after his sister, sitting next to her when it was time to eat, helping her waiting in line for her "tattoo" and finally sharing his party bag with her. The poor mum hosting the party mentioned that there were a total of 7 unexpected brothers and sisters at the party and that she was hoping she´d have enough food for everyone. Seriously, how do you show up at a party with your child´s sibling without having talked to the host/ess first? I say its rude and cheeky! As it turned out they had to emergency arrange some goodie bags but J had already been refused one and was quite sad about it. Had I not been told that it was under control I would have prepared a party bag for her myself and now she was not getting one! Now I felt annoyed on my behalf too for the inconsiderate parents showing up with uninvited children. In the end J got a bag but some panic arose for the birthday boy´s parents when they realised they wouldnt have enough...I mean, what do you do? Start checking who had rsvp´d and only give bags to them?

Memories

We started watching a BBC documentary called "Frozen planet" and there were Orcas hunting. Such beatiful animals, and it brought back memories of our honeymoon. What a lovely time! I consider myself lucky to have seen these animals in real life <3

Yesterday temperatures went up to 41 degrees and tonight at 7.45 pm it was still 33 degrees.....slightly too early for this heat if you ask me!

Girls b´fast

The last few days aboslutely NOTHING has happened worth writing about since I have spent my days inside taking care of the sick men in my life. R is still not fully recovered and went to see a doctor today for a sick certificate.

Today I was meant to have "the girls" over for b´fast but due to the gastrics I had to postpone so another girl hosted today. Since I concluded I should have been sick by now if I was going to get it I went and had a lovley time as always. Next week its my turn and Im looking forward!

Seriously?!

Just read this article on Times of Malta and its about time that the maltese realise how embarrassing they are when they name their children with someone (famous) surname. If you want to honour someone, at least choose their first name!

Waffle day

Today is waffle day in Sweden, of course I wont miss any opportunity to eat waffles so dinner today was waffles. A managed two and a half while J ate three and half so considering how little they have eaten lately this was a great success.

My fav waffle, with gooseberry jam and cream

J always prefer anything chocolaty, this time nutella.

Health update

A didnt throw up at all yesterday (apart from that night) but he had fever. When it was time to go to bed he did throw up again but I think it was more related to all the liquids he drank just before as it was only that once. Today he has been so and so, the fever has stayed. Right now I think he will stay home tomorrow too, better one day too much than too little. Plus you need some energy to be able to go to school!

R on the other hand has been feeling unwell with diarrhoea and was absolutely knocked out yesterday but he too feel a bit better today and managed to eat a bit. He is supposed to work tomorrow but I think he hasnt made up his mind yet if he is going or not.

Personally Im a bit worried that I will get it too, especially with the girls bfast coming up on wed. Dont really dare to start the shopping as Im sure I will end up getting it too. But on the other hand I cant cancel before I know Im sick!

DESS

Anyone who has followed me since we decided to move here knows that A had a hard time accepting the fact that we had to leave Malta and his school etc and how bad I felt for him but here is a nice update. The other day in the car he told me "I like my new school better than my old". I have a feeling he has forgotten the details from San Andrea but I dont really care, as long as right now he is not unhappy here and thinking we would have been better off in Malta.

The day from hell

Today I feel like it has been a day from hell. The kids woke up too early and have since then taken turns to scream and complain, they drove me insane. A started when we said we were going to dress and go out and when I managed to cheer him up in the car with some music J started complaining instead (she didnt like the song) then they fought about the positioning of their water bottles and it just got worse from then onwards. Now they are finally in bed and I can have some peace and quiet!

April roster

Last night R passed his simulator test so now we can start living again :P

He also got his april roster yesterday and we couldnt be happier. He has a total of four flights (!) of which 3 are to Malta and the fourth one a shortie to Baghdad. Sure, he has some leave but still. April should be a lovely month for us :)

B'fast

We are a bunch of swedes that found eachother through FB that have been meeting at eachothers houses every wednesday. Its great as it helps me get out of Silicon Oasis every once in a while and this week I went to the Palm. Its nice to have been there but the more I see of other parts of Dubai the happier I am about where we live. At times it might feel like we are a bit far out but then we have peace and quiet and never find lots of traffic to come or go. On wed its my turn to have the girls over, its going to be fun and I have already started planning. Tonight Im going to prepare a dough to stay raising all night and bake it tomorrow morning for the famiily to test it out. Hope it will come out good!

After a couple of weeks of the kids wanting to sleep in the same room and finding J on the floor near A's bed we took the decision to move her bed into his room so now this is what it looks like.

IKEA <3

Sometimes I thank my lucky stars that there is an IKEA here in Dubai as opposed to Malta. Yesterday I bought this bread and thought the kids would be totally excited.

But when I was going to serve it this morning A didnt want "its not like grandma's bread". I tried to explain that it was still the same although it was not the same shape and finally he took an ant sized bite. Even though I was sure he was going to like it I didnt expect his excitement when he told me "wow, now I remember!" Then he added that maybe I cold buy a bigger packet next time :)

Banana muffins

Had two bananas that were turning brown and the kids refuse to eat them and I dont feel like I can force them as I would prefer to eat a greenish banana rather than a brown myself so I ended up baking some muffins again. They smell lovely , good thing I didnt bake them glutenfree, I could have never stayed away from them....

Poor little J

J is still unwell, complaining of stomach ache and had diarrhoea twice today. Right now she is knocked out, watching tv on the sofa. R is sleeping after his night flight so its quiet around the house. Wed and Thursday night R has his yearly simulator checks and I look forward to friday when they are over and done with so I get my husband back, this month he has spent all his time studying and preparing for this.

Rotavirus?

Yesterday morning J complained of stomach pain and before A had left for school she threw up! We thought it was all cause of her eating junk the day before at the birthday party but after lunch when we went to rest she threw up again, twice, so it was something more than that. When we woke up she had fever and before she went to bed I gave her paracetamol. She slept through the night  but still had some fever this morning so she stayed home again. After lunch (she only had a chicken drumstick) she had diarrhoea but was fine for the rest of the day however some 2 hours after bedtime we heard her cry and ran up to find that she had done diarrhoea in the bed. Poor thing was so tired and confused. As I came back down after cleaning up I remembered that we had gotten an email from her nursery about Rotavirus and Im guessing that is what she has got, everything seems to fit. Vomitting, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and cough and runny nose! Lets hope it passes quickly....

Planning a holiday!

R has some leave coming up in April when the kids are on spring break and we had planned to do something fun together. Originally the plan was to go to Europe, Paris and London, then we changed to Kuala Lumpur and the last few days I have been wondering if its really worth the time and effort to travel that far for so few days. Its a 7 hour flight and although KL is a lovely place Im sort of wondering if the kids wont enjoy it as much if we stay closer to home. For them its all about being together, out of the normal routines at home. Staying at one of the hotels where we have free use of beach club seems a bit boring though as I think we will be spending days there anyway in the build up to summer but I think I finally have the solution. We should be heading to neighbouring Emirate of Fujeirah to spend a night or two at Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort before continuing a bit further north and enter Oman where I also found a lovely hotel (Golden Tulip Dibba) and we can go for a nice cruice and see dolphins in the wild. What do you think?

Dinner guests

Quick update, will try to write more tonight and also upload some photos of re-arranged bedrooms and the part this afternoon.

Last night we had a swedish family over for dinner, it was very nice to meet up, its a pity they live a bit too far from us.

The weather has changed suddenly and its been really hot the last few days and its only mid march :S As the heat increases so does my longing to go to Sweden....

Bedtime

After the kids spend a night in A´s bed, R told A that tonight J is not allowed in your bed. I guess he didnt want a repeat of a few weeks ago when they spent lots of time roaming about before finally falling asleep (in A´s bed) and that was sweet and all but they it got too hot for them and they didnt sleep very well (they still have the kid size beds). When I came up to get something I found them in J´s bed, A reading yet another bedtime story for her and telling me that if they were not allowed to sleep in his bed, they´d sleep in hers :D Sweethearts!

Stinkray!

At dinner tonight A was farting and because he was laughing at the same time the air came out extra fast so he was farting like a grown man. R and J had gone upstairs to prepare her for bed as she was exhausted and A took too long to eat with all his laughing. When A was finally ready and we went up I was telling R about what happened by the table and I said that "he was farting like a..." and I couldnt come up with a word to describe it but A was quick to add "Stinkray!"

Kensington Sportsday

J´s nursery is really trying but I still dont feel like they are getting it right, its disorganised, messy, confusing and not really thought through but its only until summer so we are closing an eye (since J is now happy and comfortable). They had a sportsday a couple of weeks ago and here are the pics we took.

J had been asking me about a hundred times if she would get a medal at sportsday, luckily she got one :)

Cosy saturday

Today was a lovely relaxed end to this weekend. Felt a bit unstable in my stomach in the morning so R took the kids out for a bikeride while I relaxed on the bed. Felt much better when they came back and concluded that the lump in my throat was a sore throat more than throwing up warning. After lunch we had planned to go to DESS for International Day but A didnt feel like it and since we didnt think it was that important we decided it was up to him. Instead we took it easy on the sofa, watching Despicable Me for the 5th time. To kill some time in the afternoon we threw together some pasta dough to make ravioli however the dough didnt come that good. It was too hard and no matter how much we tried the dough remained too thick. The kids really enjoyed them though, A saying they were better than the ones they used to get in Malta :) We also had a visit from a friend and her two kids, she is so lovely and sweet and sometimes I wonder why we dont see eachother more, we have so much in common! Regardless, her visit was a lovely end to this great saturday!

Grand Habtoor

Today we went to Grand Habtoor hotel where we have free entrance to the pool and beach club with the pilots card. It was lovely and we ended up spending all day there, leaving at 9.30, coming home at about 18.

A enjoying a chocolate icecream after lunch, totally relaxed

J absolutely bursting after pizza lunch and an icecream

Lovely deck area

The beach club part, try to spot R...

They are surely my kids, not able to resist seashells...

There was a waterslide, the kids could have kept on playing here all day long!

Lovely days

The last few days have been really great, I have been for a SWEA lunch (Swedish Women´s Educational Association), met up with another bunch of ppl and found a friend in our area. At the same time am I forced to drive to new places and learn a little bit more every time. This afternoon we went out for a walk/bike ride and we med J´s "crush" on our street so they played a bit together. Lovely!

Dubai

Not a lot is going on right now, life is the same, day in day out so I thought I´d take a moment to think about how we are doing here in Dubai. I have to say that its better than I originally expected and Im happy we did make the move. The job situation in Malta seems fairly stable right now thanks to a lease of crew to another airline but that is for now and my gut feeling is still that the government have no intentions of saving AirMalta and therefore we wouldnt have felt safe and happy had we still been there. Dubai might feel a bit big and exaggerated sometimes but Im happy here, the kids are enjoying their schools and Im so happy they both got into DESS. R enjoys his job though he might feel that he is learning a bit too much about the indian geography ;) (Its well known in the pilot community that the Airbus 330 do "all" Emirates tough night flights to India). To be perfectly honest I do think its nice to have gotten further away from the in -laws, I feel so much freer lighter without their constant checking up on us, worrying and stressing out about visiting them. The only negatives I can see right now would be that I still need to make friends (and it seems to be really hard!) plus its further away from sweden which means its harder for the family to visit. They have to pay more AND need to spend more time away than they used to as now 2 whole days are lost travelling.
