Am alive

Just a few lines to let you know that we are still alive. Really busy with playdates, after school activities and errands. Tonight Im doing a "Fairly Legal" marathon while R is playing tennis.

Welcome to the world!

Our swedish friends that came over for a bbq last week today gave birth to their son. No name so far (I think) but I cant wait to hear more about it when they settle down a bit. Anyways, congrats E, J and T!

Haircut, dentist and pizza!

Today has been a busy day again, in the morning I took my canadian friend to the swedish hair salon and she was sooo happy with the result. Im also happy that for a change I could help her out with something, she was such a guide for us when we moved here. In the afternoon we had appointments with the emirates dental clinic for "initial check up" so that we will be covered by their dental insurance. J got herself all worked up, claiming she was scared of the dentist and nothing we could say or do could convince her otherwise. After about half the trip there she calmed down and we got to meet a very nice irish dentist that first checked A´s teeth, then J´s and mine before also managing to fit R in even though he didnt have an appointment. The kids had all their 20 teeth and A has a slightly wobbly tooth (just as I discovered the other day). He said their teeth were fine which was such a a relief, you always wonder if you do enough/right. To "celebrate" we went to the swedish pizza place Verona where we all had some doner kebab, the kids and R on a pizza and me with salad and chips. It tasted sooo good, just like any other swedish pizza place. The pizza guy took a bit of a liking to J and added extra cheese when she said she loves cheese and also gave the kids some chips with the pizza :) As we were driving away A asked if we can please come back there to eat another time....Lovely to know I wasnt the only one to enjoy it!

Ohhh our house....

Good news! A swedish friend is going to rent our house in Malta. Her and her two children and Im so happy. Of course it will be great for us to get some rent to pay part of our mortgage but to be honest (and this will sound really silly) Im so happy that our house will be appreciated again. It deserves a jolly family to take care of it and love it. Im also happy for my friend because I know how happy we were in the house so Im sure they will be happy there too!

Married again!

After pregnancies and weight gain have I now given up hope on ever fitting my wedding ring again. When I tried it on it wouldnt even nearly pass the joint and even if I manage to loose some weight I very much doubt the bone will be affected. Therefore I sent the ring to "our" jeweller back in Malta and he had it resized. Last night my ring came home and it fits me! Im so excited to be able to wear it again after almost 6 years without it. It feels like I got married again :)

This is what my wedding and engagement rings looked like just before the wedding. Havent decided if its worth re-sizing the engagement ring yet...

Tough times...

R has only had layovers this month, that means that he flies somewhere and spend 24 hours before coming back home. Although his layovers are shorter than on the bigger aircrafts it still takes a lot of getting used to and its not easy when he is away so long in one go. Today he left for Malta again. Unfortunately not a happy Mlata....Yesterday when he talked to his parents I could hear that his mum was not doing well. At first I thought it was cause she had a cold but now Im quite sure she had been crying. R´s sister in laws mum is in ICU. She has some sort of disorder where she looses consciousness sometimes. I know D said she was a bit concerned about being the last of the kids to move out as she worries about her mum. So apparently yesterday D´s dad found his wife on the floor and her heart wasnt beating. I dont know too many details but they dont know for how long it had stopped beating and if she will ever wake up again. And in the middle of all this R´s brother is preparing for the baby that is due in 5 days and D´s brother is getting married in a month. Very tough times ahead for them and I think about them a lot and I hope that all will be well in the end....

Writing

The kids got some books to practice writing. A to spell and writing letters, J to practice holding the pen and following lines etc. They love to sit down and write in their books, and for every finshed page they get a gold star.

School outing

A had his first school outing last sunday. They went to the aquarium and R came as a helper. He said they had really enjoyed it and the kids behaved well. In the meantime I went for a coffee morning with a friend, lovely life huh? Joking apart, I think it was great for A to have his dad around for something for a change. I normally come in to volunteer twice a week in his class and like I said, I think R enjoyed going for something once too.

Reception Green in the tunnel....

Looks cosy doesnt it?

Apple mash

J likes her oats with mashed apples in the morning and it has been finished for a while but yesterday I remember to buy. This is how happy she was to have some apple mash again :)

Hairclips

To make sure we find hairclips when we need them we put them in a plastic box and the other day J had raided the box and looked like this....

When I removed them i counted 11 clips and 2 clams!

One year older...

Time is passing way too quickly! Wasnt really going to celebrate yesterday as R had a flight and had to go to bed after an extra early dinner. Good thing though as I got a bout of gastric when we were at the shopping mall! I was feeling sooo unwell. Luckily it was a quick one, two hours later I didnt have to stay an arms lenght from the toilet (although I wasnt feeling WELL yet). The plan is to celebrate on friday instead. R is off and the kids have no school. Im looking forward but I dont know what we are going to eat, nor what kind of cake to bake....

Phew!

Busy busy busy....Today coffee morning at a mum in A´s class. Just about gave me time to get home, have lunch, pack up swimming stuff and now I have to leave and go get J, on to DESS to get A (while waiting for him change J into swimstuff) and then quickly home to make it for her swimming lesson. R is in Manchester, due to a flight delay he didnt have time to rest before heading out to do some shopping (stuff that was forgotten last time and something that has to be changed). Birthday update will be given tonight (I hope!)

Emotional farewell

Del Piero played his last match in the league for Juventus today.....19 years faithful bianconere. Not very surprisingly it turned into an emotional farewell, both from his and the fans side. There were tears in many places, also in our tv sofa, though R was the only one not to cry. Im so very happy for R that he managed to meet the player of his heart before he left Juventus and that he did get the photo he has dreamt of for so long. It will be something he will cherish for the rest of his life and he really deserves it! Eventhough Im not really into football/soccer, especially italian football I cant help but being impressed by the man everyone seems to like. A true gentleman, faithful to his club in good times and in bad. Humble and always true to his origins. Thank you Ale, thank you for all you´ve done for my husband and all other Juve fans. Im sure one day you will be back in the organisation, one way or another.

Nighttime scare...

Last night R left for Manchester and at some point I was awoken by the homephone ringing and for a while I thought maybe he hadnt woken up and they were calling cause he didnt go out for the pickup. Since I had both kids next to me I didnt try to get it but I realised R had left so I had to check the time and realised it was about 20 minutes after the Manchester flight was supposed to leave and I kind of freaked out, thinking that his plane had crashed and they were trying to notify me. Obvioulsy now, at daytime, I can think more clearly and see points I couldnt see then and I got really worked up about it and couldnt sleep. Had to switch on computer and check if the news had anything on a missing/crashed plane and eventually I did fall asleep again but it was not a very nice feeling!

Now I know that he has landed in Manchester, with a huge shoppinglist. Detailed ones for Next and Boots but a few things that he has to look for and decide on too (like books and hairclips etc)

Playdates

This week was full of playdates. On wed we had one of A´s classmates over (with his younger sister) and all 4 kids had a blast together. Yesterday J was here with her kids for playtime and baking, they are so lovely! Their little boy doesnt crawl or walk but he is really eager to. Yesterday he was chasing the girls around in his walker :) Holding him is almost impossible, he is slippery as a soap so from now on I will call him Mr. Soap. Just when we were going to have dinner a girl in J´s class showed up outside our door and we didnt know what to do but since the timing wasnt good R went down to their house and the mum didnt know she had gone to our house so R returned home to walk the girl home as her mother was busy feeding their newborn baby. This morning the door rang again and the same girl was there, this time with her dad though, asking if she could play a bit and now was a better time for us so I said yes of course. The girls are now playing while A is on the computer.

School start

After summer J is going to start "big school" with A and she is very excited about it, she asks almost daily if she can start DESS today. We are very happy with the school but might feel like his teacher is a bit.....distant. She is obviously brilliant at teaching (A is learning so much, so fast) but I can feel that she is not so "lovable" and easygoing. Since J will be one of the youngest in her grade and seeing how she has reacted in her class at nursery I think she will need both some love and easy going I was thinking of trying to request a teacher for her since I have a feeling that our friends sons teacher (Ms. M) would be a good fit for her. I discussed this with another mum though when she was here on playdate and she (rightly so) pointed out that the Teaching Assistant (Mrs. F) makes up for what Mrs. M possibly lacks and I thought about it again and decided not to make any requests (who wants to be known as a demanding parent?). One of the mums that came for the coffee morning today is the class rep and she said that she heard that there will be some changing around of TA´s in the reception grade and because of that we wont know if Mrs. M will still be paired with Mrs. F and a Mrs. M without a Mrs. F would NOT be a good fit for J, that much I know. She also said that she knows that some people do contact the school with requests for teachers and classmates (if the child knows someone from before). What to do now? I have to act quickly for sure as I think soon we should be getting the invites for the information meeting for reception. Last year we got the invites around mid/end of may for the meeting around mid june and that´s when we found out which class and teacher we got! I think I have to at least give it a shot though, I would not have regrets for trying but might have regrets if I didnt try. I know that Mrs. F (as teaching assistant) or Mr. M as teacher would be a good fit for J so what do I have to loose? I will discuss it with R (who unfortunately is not home today) and try to get the email out asap should he agree with me.

Coffee morning

Today I had three mums (and two sisters) from A´s class over for a "coffee morning". Homebaked cinnamonrolls and muffins were a big success. It was lovely to meet and chat a bit and now Im left with some major thoughts about J´s school start after summer but that will be a whole different post I think...

Hmmm part 2

While brushing our teeth we close the door not to disturb the kids and when R opened the door to go down to get something just now he jumped high. This is what he found....

One could seriously wonder why they dont want to sleep in their beds!

Walpurgis Night

Last Monday we went to the swedish church to "celebrate" Walpurgis Night. As per tradition they lit a small bonfire, the choir sang some spring songs, hot dogs for sale and a "fishing pond" for the kids. It was a nice but slightly sweaty evening that started at 5 pm and finished at 7pm for the sake of the kids as opposed to in Sweden normally starting as late as 9 pm for darkness.

Some of the swedes that gathered around the fire

Kids waiting for their turn by the fishing pond

Very happy A cought something

And even happier J
