One could easily think Im only proud of A, especially since I forgot to update after parents meeting with J´s teacher (when we finally found the time to do it) Mrs. D talked about how kind and happy she is and how she listens to instructions and that she can keep her concentration up for an appropriate amount of time (I guess they dont do things that needs a long attentionspan, but still it feels good that she can do what they expect of her) We talked about the writing and reading (after all its just the beginning of her first year at school) so there is not so much to say about it really but Mrs. D showed me that J knows all the phonics apart from q and she knows quite a lot of the "by heart" words that they are supposed to practice to know just by looking at them instead of sounding them out. I added that J is one of the youngest in her class and Mrs. D said it doesnt show at all. I was so proud of her when I walked out of that meeting, it was just so great to hear that things that we struggle with at home (like listening to advice/directions) are not the same in school.

Yesterday I went to DESS for volunteering again. A´s class have got music that last hour before going home on sundays so I only see him for a little bit. This means that I dont have to deal with the kids when I volunteer, which is both good and bad. The classes at DESS split up for subjects like phonics, writing and maths ("streaming). In my opinion this is a fabulous system as as no child will feel like they cant keep up and at the same time will no child not be challenged to learn more. So this means that A leaves his classroom for these subjects to be with the year group team leader (Mrs. A). Anyway, when I was there cutting fabric strips for weaving and A´s class had left for music Mrs. A came out to talk to Ms. C (A´s class teacher) and I tried not to listen in but I couldnt help but overhear parts and it turned out Mrs. A was very happy with one of the kids from Ms. C´s class and in the middle of their conversation Ms. C turns to me and says "by the way, this is his mum". So it turns out that they were talking about A! Mrs A then went on to tell me that he writes to well and how well behaved and eager to learn he is. When I told her that he had wished for a cursive writing book for xmas, together with spelling and maths books and Mrs. A was seriously impressed and wondered why her sons were never like that. This is when Ms. C smiled and told her "you cant have him, he´s mine!" :) Seriously, could I be a prouder mum?

Homesick
I consider myself having two homes, one where I live (before it was Malta, now its Dubai) and of course Sweden. Right now I cant wait to go to Sweden. To breathe some clean air, hopefully let the kids play in the snow and mett family and friends of course. And to get to celebrate Swedish Christmas! Unfortunately without R, but having my mum will make up for that I think. It will be lovely for us to show the kids the swedish christmas traditions. We have so many more nice traditions than Malta. Just over two weeks to go!

Menstrual Cup
When I put in my coil my gynae told me not to use tampons as the threads of the coil might get entangled in the tampon and get moved out of its place. This is a bit of a problem when you live where you can swim all year around....a certain time of the month I cant join the others in the pool. For this reason I have started looking into menstrual cups and I will be bying one to have delivered to sweden when Im there over Christmas. Right now I think it will be a MeLuna or a Fleurcup but will have to do more research before I make up my mind. Will let you know how it goes though!

Redback
Yesterday I went for "swedish coffee morning" at a friends house and just as we sat down by the table outside one of the girls spotted a spiderweb that looked like a "nest" and in it was a (in my opinion) big black disgusting spider. The nest was typical for redbacks apparently and someone who has had experience with these spiders said that it looked like a redback evnthough we couldnt see any red on its back. Apparently they can have the red on their belly too (good thing other ppl teach me these things). In the nest there were also two small "pearls", eggs (gaaahhhh its so disgusting!). The hostess got her insect spray out and the bravest girl sprayed the spider until it didnt move anymore. You go around in your little "bubble", thinking "it wont happen to me" but the spider was bigger than I thought so now Im definately brining in pest control. When the hostess called pest control they told her that its soon time for the spider eggs to hatch and when I went to bed last night it was all I could think of....100s of tiny spider running all over the wall :S

Weekend higlight and school volunteering
Yesterday was my first time volunteering at DESS for this scholastic year. Last year I used to go in and help by listening to the children reading but this year I will go in on Sundays, while A´s class has got music so I will be doing mainly admin work. Yesterday it meant cutting fabric strips for "weaving". When I arrived J´s class had just been outside to play and were lined up outside the classroom and of course she saw me and was soooo proud that her mum came in to "work" at DESS :) A´s teaching assistant also did some work by the table I was seated at and it gave us some time to chat a bit, she is just lovely! She told me that in class that day they had talked about the weekend and the children got to tell the class about their highlight of the weekend. A had apparently said his highlight was when he and I went for a ride with his bike, ALL around our compound the evening before. How he makes my heart melt......it was such a small thing, and mainly done for me to get out and move my ass but it reminded me that sometimes you dont have to make big efforts for the kids to be happy and content!

Birthday celebrations
R had to work on A´s birthday and therefore we had two options. 1. We celebrate a day early or 2. we celebrate without R. To be honest it was an easy decision and we celebrated the birthday one day early. As per my family´s traditions a birthday starts with bfast in bed followed by presents.
Birthday b´fast with apple juice and hot chocolate and a cookie
Since A is the first one to wake up though we spent a bit of time awake and then I sent him up to our room to wait for us and this is his excited face when we came in singing "Happy birthday"
How many presents!
Labyrinth, a brilliant boardgame
J couldnt resist "helping out"
A new "big boy scooter"
Opening the present from my mum.....
....its a yellow handluggage! (Yellow is is fav colour in case anyone didnt know that)
The plants for the garden arrived! The arrived on time (on the minute!) and with all items. Very impressed :)
The faces after chocolate cake
Time to try the new scooter
Sunset over Silicon Oasis
Dinner @ Spur

Cosy friday
R took the kids to football practice today and I stayed home for a chance to meet a friend I havent manage to meet up with in a long time. When R and the kids came home they had these for me
I dont get flowers every day and it was so lovely to see the proud faces on the kids when they came in with the flowers for me. After lunch we went to try a new bowling place. The place we used to go to has bugged us as the lanes have not been good. We are no professionals, dont get me wrong but the ball could go straight all the way to the end and just change direction in the last meter and sometimes miss completely! Now they kept their direction and A finally managed to get a strike so we were all very happy. After the bowling we went to find a lamp to put up outside so we can eat dinner outside and actually see what we are eating...When my dad was here and we tried to eat our bbq´d food outside it was just too dark as the lampt that are already there were not enough. Now kids are in bed, R took the bike to the tennis court and I plan to have an early evening after en episode of Greys Anatomy.

Today is islamic new year so no school for the kids. We went to the Polo club to swim and since J got fever last time we were meant to go there it was all new to the two of us.
After lunch I played some boardgames with the kids but the fun doesnt last long, when things dont go A´s way he starts crying and complaining.....Now he´s busy writing emails to my mum and dad instead :)
