London Eye

Waiting for the train to take us to Waterloo

After some re-search we found that by arriving early for the London Eye we shouldnt have to wait so long so we decided not to pay for "Fast Track" and it did work out well for us. Since we had printed the tickets ourselves from home we didnt have to wait to collect them so when people started to line up so did we and since they had staff there they opened for passengers early! Even though they were meant to open at 10 by 9.35 we were on the first "pod"!

Saturday in London

First day in London we didnt get any photos since we (me) had missed that the camera battery was flat! So R ended up carrying a heavy SLR around London for nothing! We visited the Natural History Museum to see the dinosaurs and then we went to Picadilly Circus and walked Regents Street up towards Oxford Circus with a stop at Hamleys. R took the kids to M&S Café and gave me some time to run around the shops a bit!

Orcas

Inspired by Frozen Planet and the Orcas (as I wrote about the other day) we dug out our honeymoon dvd and enjoyed the footage. There are plenty of "killerwhale safaris" if you google it but we picked the one called "Orca Tysfjord". Watching the film we foud out that we were actually there on the 10th of november, exactly one year before A was born! I have to say it was an icredible experience, one which I hope I will get to re-live again at some point in my life, preferably with the kids. Thought I would share some pictures (taken with a bad digicam) with you all, enjoy!

R on the way out with the big boat on the first day

Me looking out for eagles

This is what the big boat looked like

On the second day we went out with the Zodiacs, the best way to experience the Orcas if you ask me

We were really lucky and here (if you look very carefully) you can see the orcas hunting fish, the fish trying to jump to get away

Some brave guys snorkelled with the Orcas

Orca Tysfjord

The happy honeymooners!

When I had a look arond the website Im very sad to say it seems that the herring are not passing the fjord to the same extent anymore and therefore there are less Orcas around and they are harder to find. The safaris only run during the weekends too so it seems things are changing so it seems I wont be able to take the kids for this lovely experience :(

Planning a holiday!

R has some leave coming up in April when the kids are on spring break and we had planned to do something fun together. Originally the plan was to go to Europe, Paris and London, then we changed to Kuala Lumpur and the last few days I have been wondering if its really worth the time and effort to travel that far for so few days. Its a 7 hour flight and although KL is a lovely place Im sort of wondering if the kids wont enjoy it as much if we stay closer to home. For them its all about being together, out of the normal routines at home. Staying at one of the hotels where we have free use of beach club seems a bit boring though as I think we will be spending days there anyway in the build up to summer but I think I finally have the solution. We should be heading to neighbouring Emirate of Fujeirah to spend a night or two at Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort before continuing a bit further north and enter Oman where I also found a lovely hotel (Golden Tulip Dibba) and we can go for a nice cruice and see dolphins in the wild. What do you think?

Days like today...

...I miss Malta a bit. Had a great relaxed afternoon at a friends house and even though we havent met in a couple of months it still feels the same. Sooo nice to relax a bit, kids can play a bit on their own, her kids play with them a bit and everything goes. Thanks for a lovely time A!

Busy busy busy

We have really been busy these last few days, I thought we would have time to relax a bit but I was mistaken! We have met R´s family, looked for more curtains, travelled with the new busses, met R´s friends etc etc. Finally the kids are going to bed at the normal time and me and R can hopefully stay awake a bit longer than 8 pm!

Arthur Christmas

We just came home from the cinema. We watched Arthur Christmas and even though I was sceptical from the start I must say it was a lovely film and I was really taken in. Grandpa Santa was hilarious! Left cinema feeling a bit christmassy :)

Early morning

yet its better than yesterday....Yesterday we woke up at 3 while I got to sleep until 5 this morning. We're getting there I guess.

Yesterday we went to the kids old school and visited everyone in the morning. The visit took forever as we met both teachers, other staff and friends (parents) but it was a very nice visit. After that we went to look for fabric for curtains for the last two rooms in the house. Took waaaay too long as there wasnt enough of the fabric that would have been perfect for the living room so after looking and looking and looking we decided to only to the kitchen in the end. In the afternoon we managed a siesta before we went to Valletta, via Candynavia in St Julians. Now I can enjoy some non alcoholic mulled wine and glutenfree gingerbread cookies. Thank god for Candynavia!

A with his best friend from Malta

With last year's teacher Ms. A

Both the kids playing in the pre-nursery area with Ms. T

A with Bertie in Upper Barakka gardens Valletta

It wasnt particularly cold but the kids insisted on hood, scarves and gloves, oh the novelty of such exotic clothes :)

Here!

We have landed on the rock. After a long trip we have now had dinner and getting the kids to bed. Dinner was great, we passed my favourite supermarket on the way to the parents in laws flat and bought the best marinatd meat. Kids got ravioli for the first time in 5 months. Everyone is happy and tired now. We were happy to find that the internet is still connected at the flat so I should be able to update regularly, tonight will be a VERY early night. Its only 18 Malta time but we have been up for 16 hrs!

Bertie Bear

A´s class have a mascot, Bertie Bear and each weekend one of the kids get to take BB home. During the weekend you are expected to document what they child did with BB by sticking pictures and writing in a special book. A very proud A got BB home on sunday for the whole of Christmas so now he is coming with us to Malta. We already started thinking about where to take pictures of him. A crib should be obvious, then I guess something in Valletta, a maltese balcony, A´s old school and a boat or a horse carriage. Any other suggestions?

Malta for xmas?

It seems we will be heading to Malta for xmas. R requested leave from the 14th til the 20th but got some extra days off until the 26th. We also checked the possibility of going to Sweden but the flight back is full and we dont dare taking a chance on ryanair taking us to Malta in the winterweather so unfortunately, with a very heavy heart I have to accept that we wont be seeing any snow this winter. I was prepared for it, we werent supposed to go anywhere for xmas but when I got my hopes up when seeing the december roster now I feel really sad about it :(
